What's Happening in Phelps, Wisconsin

It's hard to believe that summer is half over. Fall will be upon us soon with all its splendor. We finally got some much needed rain. Lake levels have come up but they still have a ways to go. The fireworks were fantastic as usual.

The walleyes have moved to deeper water. Evening is the best time to catch them. The panfish are still biting but have moved deeper as well. Musky fishing is heating up with the warmer weather. Bowhunting starts in September and the best walleye and musky fishing is around the corner. I've been seeing quite a few bucks already. It's unbelievable how many bears are around. I've seen six this year. The berries are ripe and you have to get there before the bears do.

The sounds of summer are all around us. We all could use some time to relax and unwind. There is nothing better than an evening campfire after coming off the lake with your limit. With the arrival of fall local events will soon be here. Cranberryfest, Colorama, Octoberfest as well as many musky tournements will soon be under way.  Now is the time to start thinking about booking those fall hunting trips. The grouse population is on the rise and it seems like the deer are still around. If your a musky hunter, don't forget Big Sand has produced quite a few large fish in the fall.
